Common Faults We See In The Workshop

Problems Reading Discs, Usually Caused By Dirt Or Fluff Accumulating On The Optical Lens Of The Laser, The Disc Spindle Motor, Laser Sled Motor Or Laser Pick-Up Failing.
If You Have A Console That Will Not Power Up, The Most Common Cause Of This Symptom Is Failure Of The Power Supply,
If Your PlayStation Is Shutting Down Intermittently, During Game Play, This Is A Thermal Problem, Likely Causes Of This Are, Poor Performance Of The Cooling Fan, Due To A Build Up Of Dust Or Fibres, Complete Failure Of The Cooling Fan, Poor Thermal Conductivity Between The Processor / GPU With The Heatsink, Due To Thermal Compound Drying Up.
And Finally, No Signal Displayed On The TV When The PlayStation Is Connected And Powered Up, This Is By Far The Most Common Fault, Due To Damaged HDMI Port And Or HDMI Encoder I'C Failure.

Useful Tips PlayStation / Xbox

Do Not Block Any Air Vents, Keep The Area Around Your Console Free Of Clutter This Allows A Good Amount Of Air Flow Around And Through Your Console, Helping To Keep It Cool And Avoiding Thermal Issues.

Take Care When Connecting The HDMI Lead To The Console, It Is Really Easy To Damage The HDMI Port, And On A Further Note, If You Move Your Console From Room To Room On A Regular Basis, Only Connect The HDMI Lead With Both The TV And Console Switched Off, This Prevents Damage To The HDMI Encoder / Retimer I'C.

Have Your Console Professionally Serviced At Regular Intervals, If You Are A Regular Gamer 3 / 4 Hours Per Day Say, I Would Recommend Service Intervals Of 12 Months, Moderate User's Service Intervals Of 18 Months.
Having Your Consoles Serviced Can In The Long Run Save You ££££'s
